Opera Guild of Rochester Tours

Syracuse Opera presents Eugene Onegin

Tour to Syracuse Opera for Eugene Onegin

The Opera Guild of Rochester is planning a tour to Syracuse Opera to see Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin on Sunday, April 9, 2017.

Handsome and callous, Onegin brings heartbreak to those around him. Young Tatianna is humiliated by his recklessness and his best friend Lensky finds himself reaching for the dueling pistols. Tchaikovsky's passionate score holds nothing back.

Sung in Russian with English sub titles. All attendees are invited to attend a free conductor's pre-talk an hour prior to each performance.

Tour to Glimmerglass Festival for Gershwin's Porgy and Bess

Gershwin's Porgy & Bess

The Opera Guild of Rochester is planning a tour to the Glimmerglass Fesival to see Gershwin's Porgy and Bess on Monday, July 31st at 1:30 pm.

Set in Catfish Row by the shores of Charleston, South Carolina, George Gershwin's classic "folk opera" deals with the attempt of Porgy, a disabled beggar, to create a home for himself and Bess, a young woman whose troubled past threatens to consume her present. Porgy and Bess is one of the pillars of the American opera repertory, with unforgettable melodies including “Summertime,” “Bess, You Is My Woman Now,” and “I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin.’"

This production will be sung in English with projected titles in English. John DeMain conducts with staging by Francesca Zambello.
