Orpheus in the Underworld (Offenbach)
Offenbach's comic opera is a parody that recasts Orpheus as a violin teacher. When his wife, Eurydice, whom he disdains, is abducted by Pluto, god of the underworld, Orpheus is shamed into attempting to rescue her. Does he look back, even though he may lose her forever?
